Around 50 people were joined by the Mayor of Ipswich Roger Fern to blow out the candles and cut the cake on Saturday.

Librarian Chantelle Love, said: “We had trolls pencil-topper making, psychedelic painting, we taught the kids how to do a cats cradle, Chinese skipping and hopscotch.

“It was fantastic - we had adults, babies and children joining in the fun.”

A special memory board has been added to the wall of the library, showing how the library has changed since it first opened its doors in 1967.

“It’s not just books - we are ever-changing,” said Chantelle. “We have scrabble clubs, rummy clubs, a youth club on Mondays. “We have clubs for children, read and rhyme time and IT sessions you can book.

“It is a community resource, a complete community hub.”
