A 26-year-old Ipswich man accused of possessing an imitation firearm following an alleged incident in the town’s Chantry estate earlier this year has been cleared after the prosecution dropped the charge against him.
Lee Nazeer, of Chesterton Close, had pleaded not guilty at an earlier hearing at Ipswich Crown Court to possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of unlawful violence on February 26 this year.
Today Joe Bird, prosecuting, offered no evidence on the imitation firearm charge and a not guilty verdict was entered on the court record.
The court heard that police officers who searched Nazeer’s home after his arrest found four cannabis plants he was growing for his personal use.
Nazeer admitted being involved in the production of cannabis and was jailed for three months.
Daniel Taylor, representing Nazeer, said his client had been in custody since February and was due to be released from a prison sentence for burglary later this month.
