FIREFIGHTERS in Suffolk swapped fierce flames for dirty cars at a charity car wash in Ipswich.

The event, raising money for the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund, saw the team of firefighters scrub cars and hose them down using water pumped through a fire engine.

Jim Khan, sub officer at Colchester Road fire station, where the fundraising took place, said: “We've got firefighters from red, green and blue watch as well as retained firefighters working together. And white watch, who are on duty, are helping out with catering.

“It brings everyone together and they enjoy it.

“It is also nice to interact with the public and we see a lot of women in particular come through.”
