Suffolk rocker Charlie Simpson is coming to town next year, we can reveal.

The front-man of critically acclaimed metal band Fightstar will play the Corn Exchange on March 21.

It’s been a great year for the ex-Busted heartthrob from Woodbridge, whose debut UK solo tour saw him sell out the likes of London’s Islington O2 Academy.

His first solo album, Young Pilgrim, charted at number six this August.

Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton chose the first single, Down Down Down as her single of the week and latest track Cemetery was iTunes’ single of the week and has been downloaded more than 70,000 times.

The album saw him join forces with acclaimed producer Danton Supple, who has worked with Coldplay and Doves.

It came about after he realised he needed a break from writing for Fightstar.

“We’d burned ourselves out. We’d done three records in a row. There’s no issue between us as a band – I just didn’t have it in me to write another one that soon,” he says on his website.

Still wanting to write, he found himself penning something rather different, describing his first solo effort as half scary but half exhilarating.

Charlie, who played Harvest at Jimmy’s earlier this year, has made numerous TV appearances and his music videos have gained more than one million views on YouTube, including the video for Cemetery where he was assaulted by low flying fruit.

Tickets for his Ipswich Corn Exchange show are on sale now.
