Youngsters enjoying the dazzling sunshine in Ipswich are being encouraged to make use of the water jets in Holywells Park to cool down.

The popular paddling pool at Bourne Park – used by dozens of families throughout the summer – is currently closed for essential safety work.

Water features at Holywells are open every day from 10am to 6.30pm until the end of September, Ipswich borough council bosses said.

They apologised for the inconvenience – acknowledging that it is “hot, hot, hot” – and asked children and adults to make use of the jets for the time being.

Bourne Park’s paddling pool will re-open by the end of June - so residents will be able to have a splashing time there throughout July and August.

Temperatures are expected to stay in the mid to high 20s over the next few days, and health bosses in Suffolk have been urging people to stay cool.
