PANTOMIME season may be just around the corner but there was a chance to catch a sneak glimpse of the fun heading this way when the cast of Cinderella headed into town.

The Rock 'n' Roll Party Panto launched itself on the public at the Buttermarket shopping centre yesterday with a preview of a couple of songs from the show which is being staged at the New Wolsey Theatre.

The cast, in full costume, arranged themselves on the lower level of the concourse and as shoppers crowded round the railings above they were treated to a mini musical performance.

Once the show was over they headed on to the streets of the town centre with the panto's ugly sisters bickering all the way and entertaining the crowds they encountered.

Cinderella opens on December 6, running until January 12, and promises to be a foot-tapping, laugh a minute spectacular perfect for the festive season.

This rock 'n' roll version of the fairy tale retains the charm and magic of the story and the conventions of traditional panto but has the added extra of some top music and a cast who play a wide range of instruments between them.

The show covers a veritable repertoire of music, from the mid-50s hit Rock Around The Clock to the 1980's release Walking on Sunshine, with each track fitting perfectly into the plot of the tale.

Cinderella promises fun and laughter from the minute the stage lights up and the Fairy Godmother appears to deliver a hilarious introduction and localise the production, a theme which will run throughout.

N Cinderella – The Rock 'N' Roll Party Panto is at the New Wolsey Theatre from December 6 to January 12 with performances at 7.30pm Monday to Saturday and regular matinees. Tickets cost from £5.95 to £19.95 and are available at the theatre box office, in Civic Drive, Ipswich, by calling 01473 295900, or by emailing tickets@wolseytheatre.co.uk
