From dodgeball and jailbreak to capture the flag and frizbee – adults in Ipswich can take a step back in time and play their favourite school playground games in a social space this weekend.
National sports scheme Rabble, which runs school game-style sessions for adults, is bringing its games to Christchurch Park in Ipswich for the first time this Saturday in the first of four sessions lined up.
Clara Porteous from The Gym Ipswich will be running the events, and said players could expect a fun series of games.
“Imagine an adult school PE session, where you are taking the fun elements from games at school and adding a twist,” the 26-year-old session leader said.
“It’s fun, it’s sociable and you are getting a good fitness boost.
“It is a lot of games like capture the flag and British Bulldog so it takes you back to childhood – it should be a lot of fun.”
While the atmosphere is competitive during the games, Rabble prides itself on being sociable and inclusive, meaning those of all abilities can get stuck in and enjoy the games regardless of their talent.

Rabble organisers have said Ipswich was a location suggestion which kept cropping up, and if the first run of sessions is successful could pave the way for events as often as twice a week.
Steve Farnworth from Rabble said: “We get a number of people contacting us asking when we’re going to launch in a specific area, and after receiving a few from Ipswich, and looking at our website visitor numbers to see we were gathering interest, we ran a pilot session a few months back.
“People really seemed to enjoy it, so we reached out to the team locally to see if they’d like to run the games as a licensee.”
Saturday’s session starts at 10am, with players meeting by the Christchurch park Westerfield Road gates for jailbreak.
Three other sessions on August 15, 19 and 22 have already been lined up too.
“I am excited – it should be a lot of fun and nice to meet some different people,” Miss Porteous added.
“You don’t have to be good – the abilities are all mixed in each team so it’s about having fun for everyone.
“It will take a while to establish a large number of people but I think we are hoping to do it twice a week eventually.”
