CLEARING up operations were underway today after two fires in the north of Suffolk destroyed one house and damaged another in less than 24 hours.More than 40 fire fighters from across the county tackled a fire in Halesworth on Saturday morning, which broke out in Lambert Close just before 11.

More than 40 fire fighters from across the county tackled a fire in Halesworth on Saturday morning, which broke out in Lambert Close just before 11.14am.

The fire had broken out in the terrace property but spread to the roof of houses on either side.

A woman in the house managed to escape and was not injured though she was treated by paramedics for shock, along with other people in the area.

Appliances from Halesworth, Bungay, Southwold, Wrentham, Leiston, Beccles, an aerial platform from Norwich and an operational support unit from Ipswich attended. A Suffolk police helicopter with a heat-seeking camera was also used to detect if fire was spreading to other buildings.

n Meanwhile at Ellough, six miles north of Halesworth, five appliances attended a fire at a house at Glebe Farm in Church Road.

Fire broke out on the ground floor of the brick house just before 12.48am.

Nobody was injured in the fire, which was bought under control in less than an hour.

n One fire crew from Princes Street attended a car fire in Chantry Park, Ipswich at 3am on Sunday. The blaze was put out within half an hour.
