THE sign on the door may say closed but an Ipswich nightclub is reassuring clubbers that it will soon be open for business again.

Many revellers were left confused when Opium Lounge failed to open at the weekend.

The Tacket Street club's doors remained shut throughout Friday and Saturday night, the two busiest nights of the weekend.

The closure had seemingly come without warning and rumours were heard that the venue, which recently celebrated its first birthday, would be closed for good.

However, manager Marc Dawson, today said these fabricated tales were way off the mark and while the closure had come quicker than expected, it was only a temporary measure.

"There is going to be a complete restructuring of the company and we're going to have a little refit," he explained.

"We're closed until further notice but it should only be for somewhere between a week and a month. It really shouldn't be any longer. We're just taking a little month off for some restructuring."

Mr Dawson admits that the closure may have an effect on Opium's custom, particularly with the imminent opening of new club Distinction, but he is confident they will be able to draw the crowds back in when it reopens.

It will reopen with the same music policies it has implemented for the past year.

"I think we will get everyone back," he said.

"We'll have the same DJs and residents that people like."

"We will be open again," he added. "We just want people to give us a month and then we'll be back."
