HE is described as Europe's top Asian stand-up comic and he is bringing his brand of laughter to Ipswich.

Jeff Mirza, who last year won the coveted Ethnic Multicultural Media Award (EMMA) for comedy will take to the stage at The Stage Café next Friday.

He will be joined by comics Clyde West and John Ryan as the new Ipswich venue gears up for its third weekly comedy night in what promises to be a hilarious, action-packed Friday evening.

The Stage Café, the region's only live entertainment restaurant and bar, opened earlier this month and its Friday comedy specials have really taken off.

Popular acts on the UK comedy circuit have already graced the venue, but Jeff is one of the biggest attractions so far. Hailing from Leicester, his routine has gone down a storm both in clubs and on television and radio. Appearances include the Stand Up Show on BBC1 and Comedy Nation on BBC2.

Clyde West, a comic veteran of radio who has also appeared on Channel 5's Club Class, will join him. Described by Time Out magazine as "sharp and entertaining", he has proved an excellent compere.

The third performer is John Ryan, is newly established on the comedy circuit.

In the meantime The Stage Café, on Major's Corner opposite Odeon cinema, played host to Adam Crow, Ian Boldsworth and Martin Beaumont. All are regulars on the UK circuit and got the laughter flowing last night.

Trevor Hollinsworth, a director of Ipswich-based Hollywood Leisure, which launched The Stage Café, said: "Our Friday comedy nights have been extremely popular. We have a good show lined up for tonight and next week's show featuring Jeff Mirza is very exciting."

Bookings are recommended for all comedy nights and can still be made for next Friday.

There are special deals to watch the show from the restaurant. For £16.95 per head you can book a table for the whole evening with a main course and desert. The price also covers admission to the comedy night.

To watch from the bar area, pay the special offer price of £3 on the door.

To book a table call The Stage Café on 01473 406110.
