A 21-year-old Ipswich man has been jailed for four years after being convicted of taking ecstasy tablets into a Suffolk nightclub with the intention of selling them.

A 21-year-old Ipswich man has been jailed for four years after being convicted of taking ecstasy tablets into a Suffolk nightclub with the intention of selling them.

Adrian Gunn, was found to have 41 ecstasy tablets hidden in the turn-up of his trousers when he was searched by security staff at the M nightclub in Newmarket.

Two months earlier Gunn, of Willoughby Road, Ipswich, had been searched by suspicious security staff at the Liquid nightclub in Ipswich and on that occasion was found to have 15 ecstasy tablets with him.

Gunn admitted possessing the ecstasy tablets on both occasions but denied intending to sell them. He claimed they were for his own use.

A jury at Ipswich Crown Court, found Gunn guilty of possessing the 41 tablets with intent to supply but cleared him of intending to supply the 15 tablets at the Ipswich nightclub.

Jailing Gunn for four years, Judge Paul Downes said he was satisfied the defendant had been dealing in drugs at the Newmarket nightclub. "You only have to read in the newspapers what can happen to young people if they take ecstasy," said the Judge.

"The courts have to do what they can to stamp out this trade," he added.

During the two-day trial Gunn claimed he was addicted to ecstasy and bought the drugs in bulk to get them cheaper.

He claimed the drugs found on him in the nightclubs were for his own use and he denied intending to sell them.
