AFTER a weekend which saw Suffolk basking in a prolonged Indian summer, there was a warning today that autumn is set to return with a vengeance - possibly as soon as tomorrow.

The county has been warned to make the most of the above average temperatures as by Wednesday they are expected to plummet.

There will also be more rain from Wednesday, lasting until at least the weekend.

At the weekend people took advantage of the fine weather to dust off their Bermuda shorts and take a stroll beside the sea - or even take part in some watersports.

But that could prove to be the last of the summer fine weather - in East Anglia and across the country.

Evening Star weatherman Ken Blowers said: “After tomorrow it will get cooler and cooler and for the first time we shall feel touches of autumn.

“It's because a depression is gradually coming up from the Bay of Biscay. It will cover the UK.”

Yesterday the temperature reached 17C (62F) and last week saw the temperature rise to 21C (69F).

However, by the end of this week it will fall to 14C (57F) which is the average for October.

Mr Blowers said: “In fact, every day this month temperatures have been above average for the time of year. It's rare for that to happen every day but the same thing happened throughout all of September.

“It's because instead of having winds from the north east and north west they have been from the south east and south.

“They have been coming up from across France and Spain, bringing warm air from the continent.”
