COMMUNITY police officers are to be based on an Ipswich housing estate, so residents can pop in with concerns about crime.

The team of Pc Andy Blacker (Whitton), Pc Trevor Dale (Whitehouse) and PC Tony Quinton (Castle Hill) are to be on hand at the new police office, at Ipswich Borough Council housing office in Limerick Close.

Residents will be able to discuss any policing issues they may have, with their community police officers. The office was set up as a joint venture by the police, the council and Whitehouse and Whitton Housing Forum in west Ipswich.

The opening ceremony is due to be carried out today by acting chief inspector Tim Powell and Sharon Buxton from IBC housing department.

Acting Ch Insp Powell said: "We are sure that the opening of the new community police office will provide reassurance to the local residents and will mean the officers can spend more time on their beat.

"Anyone wishing to discuss any local issues or concerns they may have or provide information in relation to particular incidents can visit the office in confidence."
