JOIN up and you could benefit.

That's the message from the Chantry Residents' Association who launched a recruitment drive for more members.

Membership costs just £1 a year and the committee argues if everyone signs up it would make a big difference to people living there.

Babs Veale, chairwoman of Chantry Residents' Association: "We currently have 80 members, which is just ridiculous for the size of the estate.

"There's about 5,000 homes.

"If everybody took up membership just think of what we could do year with all the things we could improve on.

"The thing is the estate is itself is lovely – there are all these open areas. But so many things could be done to the estate to make it better, if only people can get together.

"We also want to know what people need. If it is possible we will do it for them. People don't seem to realise that we mean it.

"People at the shop [Chantry Residents' Association Community Shop] are dedicated people who care about the estate. They live there and want to make improvements.

"Without the support of the general public we can't do anything which is a shame."

Members can get from the Chantry Residents' Association who can take up causes on their behalf.

They get three newsletters a year and also benefit from cheap day trips, organised by the Chantry Residents' Association.

People who want to join can do so at Chantry Residents' Community Shop on Lavender Hill or attend the general meeting at St Frances Church Hall, Hawthorn Drive on March 12 at 7.30 pm.
