An axed bus service which was used frequently by older people in north Ipswich has been replaced.

It is thanks to the intervention of MP Dr Dan Poulter and Ipswich councillors Erion Xhaferaj, Chris Stewart and Robin Vickery.

The campaigners have held several meetings with Jeremy Cooper, the new managing director of Ipswich Buses, following the announcement that the final stages of bus number 19’s route were to be stopped.

The replacement number 17 bus will begin running a return service at the end of this month, along Stratford Road, Coleridge Road, Macaulay Road, Congreve Road, Larchcroft Road, Henley Road, Anglesea Road, Berners Street and Crown Street.

Dr Poulter said: “The loss of the final stage of the number 19 bus route has impacted very badly on local residents that rely on public transport as they have to walk in all weathers to reach the nearest public transport.

“I am delighted to have played a part in supporting residents in this very important campaign and to have achieved such a positive result.”
