WE wish you a Merry Christmas!

That's the message from members of the 29th Ipswich Scout Group when they braved the elements to go out carol singing in aid of The Evening Star's appeal.

The cubs and beavers – who meet at Sprites Junior School – raised £62 which will go towards the appeal to raise £20,000 for a brick built pavilion in memory of murdered teenager Vicky Hall.

Julie Collins, assistant cub leader, said: "We try to do something every year for a charitable cause. We chose the Evening Star appeal because it is for a local cause.

"We were out for one and a half hours and it was freezing cold last night but the cubs enjoyed it. People were really pleased to see the children and were quite generous."

They thanked all the residents who gave generously from Radcliffe Drive, Eccles Road, Appleby Close and Belmont Road.

The pavilion in Vicky Hall's memory will replace the current dilapidated wooden buildings which serve as a club house and changing rooms for the Trimley Red Devil's Football Team.

n All sorts of fund raising events are being held to boost the Vicky Hall Memorial Appeal and if you would like please send cheques to Geraldine Thompson, Editor's Secretary, The Evening Star, 30, Lower Brook Street, Ipswich IP4 1AN.
