Their warning comes amid fears from traffic chiefs that drivers are ignoring basic road safety messages.

In a bid to combat the issue and on the eve of National Road Safety Week, the county's force has renewed its RoadSafe appeal.

And a special road safety course, attended by The Evening Star's Josh Warwick has shown in graphic detail how drivers would be crazy to:

n. Drive without seatbelts

n. Drive while above the drink-drive alcohol limit

n. Drive while talking on a mobile phone.
