The COSCO Felixstowe is taking the town's name around the world visited its namesake as part of its inaugural visit.
The vessel, which can carry 5,400 standard-sized containers, arrived at the port to a fanfare, with its officers and owners then wined and dined in a marquee set up on the quayside.
During the lunch, the ship's master, Song Qiming was presented with a special limited-edition print of the port by Richard Pearson, managing director of Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited, and a commemorative plaque by Captain Yang Bing, President of COSCO Europe.
Mr. Pearson said the port was extremely delighted to welcome COSCO Felixstowe on its maiden voyage and honoured at the naming.
