REPRESENTATIVES from Suffolk County Council visited the Bernard Matthews factory site in Holton today which has had an outbreak of bird flu.

Francis Thomas, head of communications, and Reg Ruffles, assistant county trading standards officer, were at the site this morning.

Mr Thomas said: “We are waiting for Defra to tell us what the situation is. It will depend on what strain the virus is as to what enforcement we will have to put in.”

Defra can order a range of measures such as 3km 10km exclusion zones.

Mr Thomas said information and advice was available to the public on the council's website at www.suffolk.gov.uk. He said a bird flu helpline had also been set up on 08456 032 814.
