A YOUNG man is seriously ill in hospital after horror car crash in the early hours of today.

Police said the man had been rushed to Ipswich Hospital with serious head and chest injuries after the accident on a lonely stretch of the A137 near Brantham.

He was described as "seriously ill" as The Evening Star went to press today.

Another young man was admitted to hospital with leg injuries after the crash, which happened about 500 yards past the Brantham Bull pub on the Ipswich-bound carriageway.

The accident happened just before 2am.

It is believed two cars ploughed into the two men as they walked along the country road from Tattingstone towards Brantham.

Police said the men were both in their 20s, but refused to release any further personal details until next of kin had been informed.

A spokesman confirmed the men were still being treated at Ipswich Hospital and said one was seriously ill.

Bloodied jackets and a lone trainer today marked the scene of the crash as police presence at the scene for more than five hours.

Accident investigation experts went to the crash site for first light this morning.

Yellow paint marked a 100-yard stretch of road under police analysis.

Police experts at the scene said they were not treating the accident as a hit and run incident.

Inspector Paul Sharp said: "No one has been arrested and inquiries are ongoing."

A spokesman for East Anglian Ambulance Service confirmed two men had been taken to hospital but said no more details were available.

Suffolk police are appealing for anybody who witnessed the accident or who was in the area at the time to contact the traffic unit on 01473 613500.
