COUNTY chiefs have responded with dismay to news that Ipswich has been given the go-ahead to govern its own affairs.
In response to today's announcement that the Ipswich unitary proposal has gained approval from ministers, Leader of Suffolk County Council, Jeremy Pembroke said:
“The Government has made its choice.
“We are not convinced this is the best decision for the people of Suffolk or its county town.
“We made our views known to the Minister on the proposal.
“We have always said that we too want a strong voice for Ipswich but disagreed on how that should be achieved. As always, we are here to serve the whole of Suffolk as best we can.”
