THE ASHES of a couple who dedicated their lives to the cause of conservation are to be scattered on a nature reserve which they steered to international status.
The funeral of Bert Axell, warden of Minsmere in its formative years, took place in Westleton Church, near Saxmundham, – a month to the day after the funeral of his beloved wife, Joan.
The couple moved to Minsmere in the late 1950s and while Mr Axell led work parties, his wife fed and sometimes housed the volunteers.
