A WOMAN police officer found herself stranded on a balcony for half an hour, after the owner of the flat locked the door to trap her.

Wpc Toni Manning went on to the 20ft high balcony after entering Marcel Rozzier's flat in Peterhouse Close to look for criminals who had damaged a property.

But magistrates in Ipswich heard that Rozzier promptly closed the door and locked her on the balcony.

She only escaped when neighbours finally rescued her 30 minutes later.

Rozzier, 22, admitted obstructing a police officer in the course of their duty on September 10, and failing to attend court on November 23, when he appeared in custody.

Prosecuting, Gareth Davies said: "The defendant jumped from an adjoining balcony, locked the door of his own property and left her stranded on the balcony for approximately 30 minutes.

"There she remained until the next door neighbours allowed her to get across onto their balcony and leave the premises.

"At interview, Mr Rozzier told police he closed the balcony door but didn't lock it, although the wpc says she saw him doing so."

Defending, Neil Saunders said: "He was on another balcony and the police officer went out to see if the others were there – they were. Marcel, out of devilment or something, locked the door and cleared off. He did say he hoped the next door neighbours would have let her out a bit quicker than they actually did."

Rozzier was fined £60 for obstructing a police officer, £10 for failing to surrender to bail, and ordered to pay £55 costs.
