A 15-year-old cyclist is fighting for his life today after suffering serious head injuries following a road accident near Stowmarket.

A collision between the cyclist and a Volvo estate in The Street, Ashfield-cum-Thorpe, near Debenham left the youngster with serious head injuries.

The boy, who is said to be from the Stowmarket area, was hurt in the crash which happened around 8.45pm yesterday.

He has since been transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge which specialises in treating head injuries. His condition was said to be "critical".

He is one of two Suffolk teenagers who sustained serious injuries in traffic accidents over the weekend.

On Saturday a 19-year-old man from Trimley St Mary received serious internal injuries during a collision with a motorcyclist in Felixstowe that happened as he crossed the road.

The accident in Felixstowe happened at around 9.50pm as the man made his way across Grange Farm Avenue in the area of Hintlesham Drive with a group of friends.

He collided with a D-reg Kawasaki motorcycle, whose driver did not receive any serious injury.

The 19-year-old, who has not been named, was taken to Ipswich Hospital where doctors immediately operated on his perforated liver.

He is said to be in a "stable" condition in Ipswich Hospital.

Police and ambulance crews attended both crashes and transported the injured to hospital.
