CRASH victim Tony Mowles today told how he was lucky to have survived after a 4x4 driver callously fled as he teetered on the brink of death.

Sproughton driver Jacqueline Dunnett has been slapped with a £2,300 fine after leaving a critically injured Mr Mowles trapped in the mangled wreckage of his car after an accident at Earl Soham.

She admitted driving without due car and attention and was also convicted of failing to stop after the accident and failing to report it to police.

Today Mr Mowles told how he was still struggling to put the pieces of his life back together as he battles the pain from his injuries.

He also said he felt magistrates were lenient in handing Dunnett the £2,300 fine and adding 10 points to her licence.

“I accept that we all make mistakes on the road and that's probably just what she did but I think leaving the scene is something you just can't do,” he said.

“You have to be responsible for your actions.”
