Mr Prowse, who worked as a national accounts manager for Quality Meat Scotland, was prounounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The 43-year-old, who had been married for 19 years, was being investigated by the police over allegations which date back to last November.

Mike Nunn, a spokesman for Suffolk Police, said: "Suffolk Police can confirm that Paul Prowse, from Earl Soham, was under police investigation following allegations of malicious communications relating to two incidents dating back to November 2002 and January 2003."

It is not yet known what caused the crash which killed Mr Prowse, but police experts are currently trying to piece together what happened.

Mr Nunn added: "As with all sudden deaths, an investigation will take place as to the cause of Mr Prowse's death.

"Findings from this investigation will be passed to the coroner at an inquest to be held at a later date."

Mr Prowse's grieving wife, who does not want to be named, paid tribute to her husband following last week's crash.

She described him as a loving husband and devoted father to the couple's two 13-year-old daughters and nine-year-old son.

"The accident has come as a total shock to his entire family and he will be greatly missed," she said.

"The circumstances surrounding the accident remain unclear and his family are waiting for the outcome of the police investigation and coroner's report to see if these shed any further light on the cause of the accident."

An inquest has opened and been adjourned at Ipswich Crown Court into Mr Prowse's death.
