Ipswich council’s new Crown Car Park has been given a top award for its safety features and ease of access.

The 540-space short-stay car park has been awarded a Park Mark, a national award which looks at safety features in facilities across the country.

Crown, which has CCTV and staff on duty throughout its opening hours, is the latest to be given the accolade.

Phil Smart, car parks portfolio-holder, said: “This national award means a lot to us as the rules governing who receives it are very strict - each car park is assessed by a police team.

“Crown sets out to offer good value and safety along with top customer care in the heart of the town centre.”

Customers can enjoy a new ‘green wall’ that has been planted on the surface section of the car park. Plants now cascade down the once bare concrete wall.

Crown offers parking at £1 an hour and is convenient for visitors to the town centre, Museum, Christchurch Park and the Regent Theatre.
