An investigation into a blaze at an Ipswich tower block last week has concluded it was not deliberate, police have said.
Around 30 firefighters were called to the blaze in a flat on the sixth floor of Cumberland Towers in Norwich Road shortly after 6.30pm last Friday.
Two people were injured. One suffered burns and bruises and was taken to hospital, and the other was treated for smoke inhalation. They were reportedly a rescued elderly man who was trapped in the flat and a firefighter respectively, although this has not yet been confirmed by the fire and ambulance services, who have both been contacted.
A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said: “Following the fire at Cumberland Towers on Friday, fire and police conducted a joint investigation into the incident which has concluded that the fire is being treated as non-suspicious.”
The incident prompted Ipswich MP Sandy Martin to call for quick action to get sprinklers installed in all multi-storey buildings.
