A FELIXSTOWE burglar who had balaclavas, tools and maps of arcades has been ordered to stay at home at night.

Matthew Codman, 18 of Langley Close, was told at Ipswich Crown Court not to leave his home between 7pm and 7am for four months.

He was also ordered to complete a year's rehabilitation order after he pleaded guilty to burglary and going equipped for theft and asked for four similar offences to be taken into consideration.

Matthew Gowan prosecuting, said Codman and two 17-year-old co-defendants broke into a kebab shop in Undercliff Road and stole about £20 from a gaming machine, £100 of damage was caused.

Police officers saw the three men acting suspiciously in Walton Avenue and retrieved the rucksack Codman had discarded, it contained tools and balaclavas.

When police searched his home they discovered a hand drawn map of Felixstowe Pier and a key, the map details showed cash desks and where gaming machines were.

Mr Gowan said Codman had also asked the court to consider other crimes he had committed including an attempted burglary at an amusement arcade, another at the kebab house and one at WH Smiths in Felixstowe.

He also said he had broken into Felixstowe Pier causing £100 of damage.

Matthew Buckland, mitigating said his client was: "Easily led and easily tempted and had acted impulsively."

Codman had a previous record for burglary and theft. The co-defendants, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were given a 12-month rehabilitation order, a four-month curfew and each told to pay £100 compensation.
