Damaged school to reopen today

A SCHOOL reopened today after £15,000 worth of damage caused by vandals at the weekend was repaired.Stowmarket Middle School was closed to clean up the devastation which saw human excrement in a classroom, musical and computer equipment destroyed and pupils' work trashed.

Stowmarket Middle School was closed to clean up the devastation which saw human excrement in a classroom, musical and computer equipment destroyed and pupils' work trashed.

An assembly was today held by headteacher Gordon Ewing and all the teachers attended to welcome the pupils back.

Mr Ewing praised the community for pulling together in the aftermath of the crisis.

"We were really devastated.

"I've been head here for nine years, a headteacher for 19 years and in teaching for 28 years, including in London, and I've never seen anything like this.

Electrical contractors and plumbers had to be called in to the school at Walnut Tree Walk to repair the damage. Taps had been left running in the girls' toilets and fire extinguishers had also been let off.

Three young boys were arrested in connection with the vandalism.

Two 11-year-olds and a ten-year-old – all from Stowmarket – had been taken into custody and questioned by police.

A police spokesman today said: "There have been no charges brought against of the boys yet. They are still on bail and are due to return to Stowmarket police station on June 27."
