IPSWICH-based dance group Chung Si are today celebrating after winning the national Idol 2008 competition.

The eight strong all female group, which uses the motto "Dance Is Our Eternity", lifted the competition's dance trophy at the finals in front of a 2,000 string crowd in Portsmouth's Guildhall last weekend.

Dancer Wendy Howard, 30, of Coral Drive, Ipswich, said: “We are over the moon. We've been dancing for four years and the standard was very high but we have worked hard for it.

The winning prize includes a UK tour with the winners of the singing part of the competition and a master class from Kylie Minogue's dance choreographer, Tim Noble, with the opportunity to record their own video.

Wendy said wining the competition should hopefully open doors to the entertainment industry.

She added: “We qualified after auditioning at Ipswich Corn Exchange. The support from family and friends has been amazing. We were up against 20 other dance teams and we came first.

“We can't wait to get out there and work. We've been a long time in the industry and this should be a foot in the door to bigger things.”

Other group members include Lauren Clarke, Chelsea Bennett, Kyle Seeley, Sarah Hebb, Stephen Tavender, Lara McCabe and Toni York.
