TENTS will be pitched, warm clothes worn and thermos flasks filled as the annual ritual of queuing for Daniel O'Donnell tickets gets underway at the weekend.

With the Irish crooner announcing three dates at Ipswich Regent in February next year and tickets going on sale at 8.30am on Sunday there will no doubt once again be the orderly scramble to be among the first to bag the best seats in the house.

Daniel fans are warned, however, that tickets for his shows on February 21, 22 and 23 next year will not be sold at the Regent on Sunday.

Due to the fact the theatre is host to other productions over the coming weekend the much sought after tickets will instead be on sale at the Central Box Office at Ipswich Corn Exchange, Princes Street.

The image of Daniel's fans camping out in the centre of town as others hit the town for a night of drinking and dancing rather than in the relative solace of the Regent car park promises to be quite a sight.

But those eager to see his concerts would not have it any other way and the opportunity to see Daniel in concert is never complete without first camping out overnight for tickets.

It has become an enjoyable part of the ritual as dozens of likeminded fans endure whatever the weather brings to ensure they are first in line to see the star who has formed a close affinity with Ipswich.

Daniel's visit to town next February marks the 14th year in a row that he will have performed here.

The boy from County Donegal has a huge following in the town and though his first concert tour to take in Ipswich in 1988 was a one night performance he now regularly includes three dates and they all sell out. It is a testament to the popularity he has amassed in the town.

It is hard to think of any other artist visiting the Regent who could create such a phenomenal demand for tickets.

Many people may not understand what it is about Daniel that creates such a fuss but it is hard to deny he has definitely got a special something as far as his fans are concerned. Why else would so many of them be willing to endure the elements and the late night revellers walking through town just for a couple of tickets?

N Daniel O'Donnell will perform at Ipswich Regent on February 21, 22 and 23. Tickets can be bought in person from 8.30am on Sunday at the Central Box Office, Princes Street, Ipswich. From 9.30am tickets will also be available by calling 01473 433100 or logging on to
