A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Sherrington Road Park

A man arrested as part of a rape investigation has been committed to Ipswich Crown Court following appearance in magistrates court today.

Dara Abdullah, aged 39 and of Surrey Road in Ipswich, has been charged with one count of rape and two counts of assault by penetration.

It is in relation to the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl in Sherrington Road park between 10pm and 10.10pm last Wednesday (June 17).

He appeared before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court in Ipswich this morning and has been committed to Ipswich Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on July 7.

He has been remanded in custody.
