MANY of Suffolk's churches will be holding special services to mark the first anniversary of the tragic events of September 11.

In a personal message, The Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, the Right Reverend Richard Lewis said today: "The peoples of the world are dependent on one another for their global future. It is no longer possible to carry on believing that individual nation states can carry on as they think best and ignore the needs and conditions of the rest of humanity as if it does not affect them.

"It sounds so obvious, but the thing which has really changed since 11 September 2001 is the dawning realisation amongst many more people, that the future of this world for better or worse is something in which all the peoples of the earth are involved and inter dependent. It means looking for new ways forward which have more to do with respect for the poorest rather than the power of the strongest."

Some of the special services in Suffolk marking September 11 include: St Edmundsbury Cathedral - a 'Service of Remembrance and Reflection' at 1pm.

St. Mary-le-Tower, Ipswich - Pause for Quiet at 9.30pm.

St John the Baptist Badingham - A short service at 5.00pm. A time to remember and pray.

All Saints Barrow– The Ashton Singers, Horringer Singers, Risby Singers, members of the

Bach Choir and Parish choirs, perform Faure's Requiem at 8pm.

St Augustine, Ipswich. The church will be open from 11am to 3pm for quiet prayer. There will be a short service at 2pm.

St Bart's Ipswich - a special Eucharist at 7.30pm, followed by 30 minutes of prayer.
