A DRAGON dance was just one of the highlights as Ipswich youngsters joined the celebrations for Chinese New Year.

A DRAGON dance was just one of the highlights as Ipswich youngsters joined the celebrations for Chinese New Year.

Pupils in the nursery and reception class at St Joseph's College's junior school dressed up in traditional costume and were treated to a taste of Chinese culture and entertainment… not forgetting the famous food!

"We did some cookery with woks, and the children tasted noodles and black beans. They really liked it," said Zillah James, head of the nursery.

The children also learned about the history of dragons and made pretend firecrackers, and they put on a mini-performance in front of the rest of the infants.

The Chinese New Year celebrations were part of a special international day at St Joseph's, designed to teach pupils more about other cultures around the world.

"Everybody had a good time during our special day," added Mrs James.
