When the Dr Who series began on the BBC in 1963, police phone boxes were a common sight.
The “Tardis,” featured in the science fiction programme, was a Police box on the outside, but a much larger time machine within.
A set of photographs taken in Felixstowe in March 1966, by staff photographer John Kerr, featured officers of the East Suffolk Force using a “Tardis” at the Pier Pavilion site.
Before police officers had personal radios the boxes were located around the area for officers to contact the police station.
If the headquarters needed to contact them a light would flash on the top. The photographs also include police vehicles, which would be museum pieces today.
