We look back to when the roads around Felixstowe seafront were closed to allow cycle riders to race along the promenade.
With a mixture of amateurs and professionals taking part the races attracted much attention.
Felixstowe’s residents turning out to watch the action, lining the streets, eager to see the cyclists power along the prom.
As well as the high speed action, there was some drama as a few of the riders lost their balance and fell during the races.
The riders picked up a significant amount of speed coming down the famous Bent Hill, then had to take the corners at speed to maintain their positions around the tight bends.
