Most transactions at the banks in Ipswich are now automated, writes David Kindred.
Cash withdrawals and paying in cheques are now done with a bank card and keying in a few numbers to the computer system. Many customers rarely visit their bank, making all their transactions online.
In this week’s Days Gone By I feature photographs I took at the Westminster Bank at the corner of Princes Street and King Street, Ipswich, in April 1964. The building has also been a Parr’s bank and more recently the Chelsea Building Society. The Ipswich building Society are moving there next year.
Most transactions then were face-to-face with a great deal of paperwork going on behind the scenes.
