MOTORISTS faced congestion today following crashes on Suffolk's two arterial roads.

The first accident, at 7.05am, took place on the A12 near Colchester and involved five cars.

No-one was hurt, but there were some delays while the road was cleared.

Four fire crews were sent to the scene initially, with one from Colchester remaining to make the area safe and help police in the clean-up operation.

At 7.22am, a four-vehicle collision took place on the A14 westbound carriageway near Newmarket, close to the Rowley Mile services.

One lane was blocked until around 8.45am when the vehicles were recovered and debris removed from the road.

An ambulance went to the scene to treat minor injuries, although no-one was taken to hospital.

Traffic was flowing normally again by 9am.
