The incident on the westbound carriageway involved a black Toyota pick-up truck, which police said rolled over on the carriageway and blocked the road.
An articulated lorry also got stuck in shingle a short distance away.
The accident happened at 7.40am. Two fire crews from Princes Street and one from Colchester Road attended the scene.
Firefighters were sweeping away the debris by 8.15am.
Traffic heading in the direction of Bury St Edmunds was delayed and soon built up into a two-mile tailback past the Copdock Interchange.
A police spokesman said nobody was injured.
A car overturned at Woolverstone overnight – again no one was hurt in the accident.
