AN Ipswich newsagents has put a stop to its newspaper deliveries after one of its paperboys was beaten and robbed of £5.

Lamberts Newsagents, on Wherstead Road, was quiet this morning with out the usual chaos of bikes and youngsters getting ready to deliver their papers.

The usual daily morning and afternoon routine of teenagers taking newspapers to homes was missing today.

Instead it was only customers going in and out of the shop that was visible.

The 13-year-old, who works for Lamberts, was on his delivery round when he was approached by two youths, one white and one black.

The boy was beaten and his money stolen at around 4.30pm on Thursday.

Luckily he did not need hospital attention.

A worker at Lamberts said the boy was shaken by his ordeal but luckily not badly injured.

He said: "We have stopped the delivery at the moment so that the boys feel safe.

"It is the boy's birthday today so hopefully he will be feeling a little better. It is just good it did not actually happen on his special day."

Anyone who has information about the robbery should contact Ipswich police on 01473 383100.
