AN 11-year-old boy was today fighting for his life after a den he and young friends had built caught fire.
Daniel Causer, of Wharf Road, Pinxton, Nottinghamshire, suffered 50 per cent burns to his body in the blaze.
Two other boys, aged 14 and 15, were said to have been slightly injured.
It is believed the youngsters had created the den from a sofa and polythene sheeting on waste land in Church Street, Pinxton.
The fire took hold on Sunday evening as the boys were playing at the site. Firefighters were called and Daniel was initially taken to the nearby Kings Mill Hospital for treatment.
He has since been transferred to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre and was being treated on an intensive care unit.
Police were today investigating the cause which is believed to have involved petrol.
One local resident said the sofa, used to make part of the den, had been dumped on Saturday and they had seen the boys moving it on to a section of waste land.
