after losing his appeal against the government's decision to deport him.

He left behind his fiancee, Kirsty Harrison, 17, in Ipswich, his former foster family in Kesgrave and a job at Salentina restaurant in Great Colman Street, Ipswich.

He left Britain with about £300 in his pocket and today only has £70 remaining.

The boarding house where he has been forced to set up temporary home is costing £12 a night and does not provide meals.

Mr Harris, of Bell Lane, Kesgrave, believes because Elton looks like a westerner he is being exploited and forced to pay above the usual cost for food and shelter.

Despite this Mr Harris said Elton is happier than he was in the days before he left Britain as he was struggling to cope in detention at the Colnbrook immigration removal centre near Heathrow.

He added: "He is a little bit settled and he knows we are still fighting for him. He has said how lucky we are in this country with what we have – he has not lost sight of that.

"He is happier than he was in that hellhole. His frame of mind changed when he was going back because he knew he was getting out of there. No one deserves to be in there expect criminals."

Mr Harris is planning to visit Albania in three weeks time to assist Elton in his bid to return to Britain.
