IT'S going to be big, brash, exciting and colourful – and it needs a logo!

Organisers of Felixstowe's Golden Jubilee Festival, part of the BBC Music Live event this summer, are appealing to talented designers to come up with a motif which will capture the theme of the event.

The winning logo will be used to promote the music day across the region – and there will be a cash prize for the one chosen.

Event co-ordinator Les Arbon said ideally the logo should feature the main elements of the festival, which are music, the celebration of the Queen's 50 years on the throne, the BBC and Felixstowe.

If the designer came up with a name for the event, that would be considered too.

"We need a logo which inspires people and promotes the event and captures the great spirit of celebration which we hope the day will have," said Mr Arbon.

"This is a chance for everyone in the community to be involved and we hope people will have a go at drawing a logo."

Entries for the competition, with the name and address and phone number of the entrant, should be sent to Felixstowe Golden Jubilee Festival Logo Competition, c/o The Evening Star, 105B Hamilton Road, Felixstowe, Suffolk, IP11 7BL.

People can also e-mail entries to richard.cornwell@eveningstar.co.uk

Preparations for the event on June 3 are progressing well. Organisers have now been given the go-ahead to broadcast the Buckingham Palace rock concert live on large outdoor screens as one of the attractions.

There will be eight stages set up on different parts of the seafront with each featuring different types of music – including brass bands, jazz, country and western, pop-rock, folk, and ethnic cultural artistes – during the ten-hour extravaganza.

More than 20,000 people are expected to flock to the resort for the day and organisers say it could be the perfect day-out for jubilee celebrations and are encouraging people to bring their street parties to the beach.

It is costing around £20,000 to stage and there are still stages and activities available for company sponsorship.

In addition to the music, there will be street entertainers such as fire eaters, jugglers, buskers, Punch and Judy, a karaoke marathon, stalls, majorettes, refreshments, amusements, and an It's A Knockout contest.

In the evening, while the music continues, there will be fireworks and the lighting of a beacon as part of the national chain following the lighting of the first by the Queen.

Anyone who is able to help or would like to take part in the day should contact Mr Arbon on 01394 270745 or 07880 976788 or by e-mail, les@searleuk.com
