With the sunshine still blazing and temperatures sticking in the high 20s, Guy Fawkes Night seems a long way off.

But details have today been announced for this year’s fireworks extravaganza at Ipswich’s Christchurch Park.

Taking place on Saturday, November 5, the event will combine another colourful display in the sky with an open air theatre production of A Guy Fawkes Story, a comedy performed in the Horrible Histories style.

The show, named The Catesby Catastrophe, is a historically accurate account of Robert Catesby and Guy Fawkes’s failed attempt to blow up the houses of Parliament in 1605.

Following the success of last year’s Halloween-themed spectacular where thousands flocked to the park, visitors are again being encouraged to come dressed in spooky outfits.

Organisers are creating a truly haunting line-up. There will be a stage featuring DJ Rave Digger and MC Bone Shaker, and spookily lit grave stones creating a living cemetery with dancers, spooks, zombies and ghouls.

Nigel Dixon, from entertainment provider East Coast Productions, said: “With 200 performers we have pulled out all of the stops to create an amazing and unforgettable live animated experience for the people of Suffolk.”

Emma Dodd School of Performing Arts will showcase a specially choreographed creepy dance and song.

The family-friendly event will also include music, a funfair, fire performers, stilt walkers, samba bands and bonfires.

Visitors can enjoy food stands from hot dogs to hog roasts and fish and chips to donuts, along with a licensed bar.

Tickets go on sale from October 3. Discount tickets purchased in advance are £4 for children and £6 for adults.

Cash entry to the park on the day will be £6 for children and £8 for adults. Entry for under five-year-olds is free.

Tickets can be bought online through the Ipswich Borough Council box office with a £1 booking fee, or via telephone at 01473 258070 or 01449 676800.

Alternatively, tickets can be bought in person from stores that are listed online at: www.ipswichfireworks.co.uk/tickets/
