DISGRACED former South African cricket captain Hansie Cronje was killed today in a plane crash.
Cronje, once rated the world's finest cricketer, was on a light cargo aircraft which crashed in mountains in South Africa.
The plane, which left Johannesburg for George early today, was unable to land due to poor weather.
It appears the pilot tried to circle before landing but crashed in the rugged Outeniqua mountains.
Cronje was banned from cricket for life after admitting taking money to fix international matches.
In August last year he vowed to stay in South Africa and make up for his "mistake''.
