SUFFOLK police are appealing for information after an elderly woman was the victim of a distraction burglary in Fornham All Saints.

The 78-year-old was at her home in Tut Hill at 8.30pm on Tuesday when a youngster called at her door and asked to retrieve his ball from her back garden.

She tried to go out of the back door but it was jammed so she left the house from the front door and locked it behind her.

The couple looked for the ball for around 15 minutes and once she returned to the house she noticed her back door was open and money had been stolen from the house.

The youngster is described as male, white, 15 to 16-years-old, 5ft 5in and of slim build.

He had brown slightly spiky hair, a pale complexion and wore a light coloured jacket, darker coloured trousers and trainers.

Anyone with information to this incident should contact Pc Jason Lambourne at Horringer police on 01473 613500.

Police remind residents to check the identity of any unexpected callers and not to let them in if they are unhappy as to who they say they are.
