I RECENTLY featured readers' memories of playing alongside future Ipswich and England football star Brian Talbot during his time at school in Ipswich.

Ray Squirrell, of Broomhayes, Ipswich, sent me this photograph of the Bramford Road Primary School team of 1963-64.

Ray said: “After winning the small schools league we went on to play the bigger school champions, Dale Hall Lane at Luther Road School. After defeating them quite convincingly we were presented with the shield by Gerry Baker from Ipswich Town FC. He was the brother of the famous Joe Baker of Arsenal and Torino. Unfortunately this was the last time the team played together as we went on to different schools and sometimes ended up playing against each other, as I did at when I was at Westbourne School and Brian Talbot was at Tower Ramparts School.

“The boys are, back row left to right: R Wythe, L Ichetta, D Jay, R Squirrell, D Banyard and Mr Cooper the sports master. Front row: R Sillett, N Whurr, M Fenn, B Talbot, L Sabatini, P Lawrence and G Newsom.”
