Do you remember when the Defiance Inn stood proudly in Stoke Street?

Situated just outside the town centre, it was the perfect location to catch passing trade from the railway station, and had its host of regular punters - as these pictures from 1975 show.

The Defiance Inn was just one of the many names the pub had operated under in its history.

However, in 1996 it closed its doors for the final time, joining the list of pubs that have been lost from Suffolk’s county town.

The building was converted to residential use soon afterwards, with boarded-up windows a common feature of the building in the present day.
