A COASTGUARD crew in Essex were called yesterday afternoon to rescue a dog after she fell off the edge of a cliff.

The springer spaniel, called Abbie, was out walking with her owners when the accident happened in Walton-on-the-Naze.

A spokeswoman for Thames Coastguard said they were called at about 12.30pm to reports a dog had fallen off a cliff and was stranded on a ledge.

The Walton coastguard crew went to the scene and safely rescued Abbie, returning her to her worried owners after around half-an-hour.

The spokeswoman said despite her ordeal Abbie was fine and happy to be returned safely to land.
